NCTV is more than just two TV channels; it’s a community-driven media arts center that reflects the heart and soul of Nantucket. From showcasing local talent to providing educational programs for all ages, NCTV is committed to nurturing the media arts and fostering a space where voices can be heard and stories can be shared.
This year was filled with capturing island events such as the Island Cup Game at Fenway, where over 8,000+ viewers watched the game live! Plus, local government meetings, the Boston Pops, the Nantucket Book Festival, the 2024 Solar Eclipse, and many more. The TV station documented this year’s historic election of voters’ thoughts on the election interviewed by local high school students after training with NCTV staff members. Our education programs continued with programs like Whaler Media 101 and TeenView, and we expanded to technical workshops for our community elders.
ACK Ambassadors: teenagers will produce public service announcements (PSAs) that capture and communicate the harsher realities of our year-round community: drug and substance misuse and addiction. Slated to premiere in 2025.
Fables: a storytelling series directly from Nantucket elders in the form of “fables” to share with children and families of the island. This production spotlights long-time senior community members who have unique and special life lessons to share. Fables is NCTV’s newest Whaler Media 101 initiative. Slated to premiere in 2025.
Thanks to our supporters, we have successfully launched NEW Moon Fest - Nantucket Empowering Women (NMF). This is an international film festival outreach to women filmmakers around the world. NMF showcased the official 2024 selection at the historic Siasconset Casino to celebrate women filmmakers and storytellers—twelve short films from the United States, the Middle East, Europe, Australia, and Canada.
The Nantucket Shorts Fest continues to captivate and inspire, with this year’s event achieving another sold-out audience. Twelve remarkable films were showcased—each created on Nantucket, inspired by Nantucket and made for Nantucket. This growing celebration of local storytelling highlights the island’s vibrant creative spirit.
To further nurture this talent, we introduced the NCTV Screenplay Contest—a new initiative designed to inspire and support emerging local filmmakers. With enthusiastic participation and an audience eager for more, the Nantucket Shorts Fest is solidifying its place as a must-attend event in the local arts scene.
However, to continue offering these essential services, we need your support.
As we look ahead to 2025, our goals are to continue inspiring storytellers on the island and globally. Through our screenplay writing contests, we will offer free assistance in filmmaking services. We will also offer cutting-edge media and communications education opportunities for youth and adults, including business people and nonprofits. We aim to expand our collaborations with like-minded organizations and professional filmmakers who share our commitment to our mission of fostering creativity, knowledge, civic engagement, and furthering community awareness and connection.
By contributing to NCTV, you invest in our community’s cultural and educational fabric. Whether through a financial donation, business sponsorship, volunteer time, or encouraging your connections to sign up for our newsletter, every bit of support helps us reach our goals.
Thank you for considering supporting NCTV. Let’s continue celebrating and preserving the rich stories that make Nantucket unique.
