The Island Cup - Nantucket vs. Martha's Vineyard Rival Football Documentary

Overview

The Island Cup documentary tells the story of a very special, and somewhat unknown, aspect defining generations of people who are the backbone of two island communities—Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. We begin by telling the story of 2018’s annual Island Cup rival game, followed by a deep exploration of an inter-island rivalry, changing island demographics, and how the state of the sport nationwide impacts community football.

What We Need & What You Get

Currently, in production, The Island Cup is produced by Nantucket Community Television (NCTV18- a media arts center, local non-profit PEG station), led by filmmakers Frank Schadt, Dee White, and Andrew Cromartie, and directed by Lisa Getter, Arlene O’Reilly, and Dan Driscoll. Together, we have self-funded and completed roughly 40% of the production. Your contribution will help us complete production and editing, then market and distribute the film, set to release in 2020. Providing funding is achieved, we intend to produce and broadcast a short series following the premiere of this documentary movie. When our crew at NCTV18 began capturing and collecting footage for this project, we received great support from both Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard high-schools, including the athletic departments and Martha’s Vineyard Community Television (MVTV).

Providing we meet our funding goal, our intention is to premiere this film documentary at the Nantucket Dreamland Theater, and theaters on Martha’s Vineyard in 2020. We will also be broadcasting this film on both islands local Comcast channels, and it will be available for smart TV users on-demand for anyone to watch with internet access. We believe the caliber of this film is worthy of submitting to film festivals. If we surpass our goal, we intend to establish scholarships for students wanting to study film-making that will be available to students from both islands in collaboration with MVTV and local high schools.
