Nantucket Community Television (NCTV18) is proud to announce LUNAFEST® is coming back to our island.

The national traveling film festival, presented by nutrition bar company LUNA, showcases films by, for, and about women, originally managed by the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket, will become a signature event of NCTV18.  LUNAFEST will be a special ‘hybrid’ event hosted on Saturday, May 29th, 2021, virtually and a socially distanced in-person event at the Dreamland Theater.

“This is a great opportunity for us to recognize the entire community that supports female filmmakers on Nantucket and beyond, and we will celebrate all of the support NCTV18 offers. This is a perfect alignment event for us at NCTV18—LUNA supports women with vision and voice using film as their tool, and NCTV18 supports filmmaking, media arts, and Nantucket. We are thrilled to take this event over from TWN, as LUNAFEST Nantucket has been a longtime cherished festival on the island. This event will become one of our crucial ongoing fundraisers to help us reach our goals. One goal, in particular, is our building renovations for expanding our broadcast TV station and classrooms.” —Lisa Getter, Executive Director of NCTV18.

LUNA Bar (Founding Corporate Sponsor of LUNAFEST® ) has always believed in the power of women. From the beginning, [LUNA] knew women had a role to play in shaping the future of the film industry so, in 2000, LUNAFEST was born. LUNAFEST was the first all-women traveling film festival to hit the screens and amplify the voices of strong women everywhere. The first event was a small, but hopeful, screening in California. Today, there are screenings in more than 175 cities across the nation where the work of talented women filmmakers are showcased.

Next season’s program of eight selected films is designed to compel discussion, while also bringing laughter and some tears. Incredibly diverse in style and content, LUNAFEST is united by a common thread of exceptional storytelling – by, for, and about women. LUNAFEST features filmmakers from around the world telling a variety of stories. LUNAFEST is recommended for those 16 and older because of some nudity.

The power of storytelling as long as it’s based on truth can change global views.  Films are proven to impact change by awareness and influence. All of the arts are celebrated in film making from concept theory, writing, drawing, imagery, animation, filming, and editing.

In tandem with LUNAFEST, a silent auction will be taking place to support NCTV18, a local non-profit, and the construction of  “Studio A,” NCTV’s future broadcast station. For more details about sponsorship opportunities, ways to give to the silent auction, and ways to become involved, please contact Arlene O’Reilly, NCTV’s Director of Development and Marketing.
